Hybridization

All species and sub-species should remain pure and should not be crossed without a grounded reason or purpose. Mutation breeding is not a grounded reason or purpose.

Ring-necked Alexandrine Parakeet

Psittacula krameri X Psittacula eupatria

Note: The hybrids from Ring-necked parakeets and Alexandrine parakeets are the most common hybrids. These cross-birds are not always infertile. They are often sold as sub-species of the Alexandrine parakeet. Most Ring-necked Alexandrine parakeet are bred to add mutations into the pure Alexandrine parakeet. This can take years to establish just one mutation. The most common mutation is the hybrid Lutino.

Hybrid Green

Description: General green body; greyish tinge on breast; orangebrown wing patch; bluegreen tail with yellowish tip; green head, brighter around the beak; neck ring black with rose in cocks; red upper mandible, reddish lower mandible; grey feet, black nails; black with yellowish iris.

Note: The pure Alexandrine parakeet has deep red wing patches and is much larger than the Hybrid Green.

Hybrid Greygreen

Description: General greygreen body; orangebrown wing patch; manifestation of Grey in the Green-series; dark greygreen tail with yellowish tip; greygreen head, brighter around the beak; neck ring black with rose in cocks; red upper mandible, reddish lower mandible; grey feet, black nails; black with yellowish iris.

Note: Hybrid Greygreen can be distinguished from the pure Alexandrine parakeet by the size and the orange wing patches.

Hybrid Blue

Description: General blue body; greyish tinge on breast; nearly visible greyish wing patch; blue tail with whitish tip; blue head, brighter around the beak; neck ring black with white in cocks; red upper mandible, reddish lower mandible; grey feet, black nails; black with yellowish iris.

Note: Hybrid Blue is recessive in inheritance. Youngsters from Hybrids do not have wing patches when they fledge. They will get the patches after the first year.

Hybrid Turquoise

Description: General turquoise wash body; wings show pale green tinge; nearly visible greyish wing patch; blue tail with whitish tip; turquoise head, brighter around the beak; neck ring black with rose or white in cocks; red upper mandible, reddish lower mandible; grey feet, black nails; black with yellowish iris.

Note: Youngsters from Hybrids do not have wing patches when they fledge. They will get the patches after the first year.

Hybrid Lutino

Description: General yellow body; orange wing patch; yellow tail; yellow head, brighter around the beak; neck ring white with rose in cocks; red upper mandible, red lower mandible; pink feet, light coloured nails; red with yellowish iris.

Note: Hybrid Lutino can be distinguished from the pure Alexandrine parakeet Lutino by the size and the orange wing patches. The pure Lutino has deep red wing patches and is much larger.

Hybrid Cinnamon Green

Description: General yellowgreen body; washed with brownish tinge; orangebrown wing patch; light bluegreen tail with brownish tinge and lighter tip;yellowgreen head, brighter around the beak; neck ring darkbrown with rose in cocks; red upper mandible, reddish lower mandible; pinkish feet, light coloured nails; darkred with yellowish iris.

Note: There are some rumors about a Cinnamon mutation in the pure Alexandrine parakeet.The pure Cinnamon Alexandrine parakeet will have deep redbrown wing patches and would be much larger than the Hybrids Cinnamon.

Hybrid Pallid Green

Description: Looks somewhat like cinnamon however without the brownish tinge; visible wing markings; orangebrown wing patch; tail as Cinnamon without the brownish tinge; yellow head, brighter around the beak; neck ring grey with rose in cocks; red upper and lower mandible; light feet, light nails; darkred with yellowish iris.

Note: There is no infromation about a Pallid mutation in the pure Alexandrine parakeet.

Hybrid Pallid-ino Green

Description: As Lutino, but with green tinge on the whole body except on the head; orangebrown wing patch; as Lutino with green or blue tinge; yellow head, brighter around the beak; neck ring light grey with rose in cocks; red upper and lower mandible; pink feet, light coloured nails; red with yellowish iris.

Note: Hybrid Pallid-ino are bred by combining the pure Lutino Alexandrine parakeets with the Pallid Ring-necked parakeets.

Ring-necked Moustached Parakeet

Note: There are rumours that these cross-birds are infertile. Ring-necked Moustached parakeet are bred to add mutations into the pure Moustached parakeet. This can take years to establish just one mutation.
